I called and called the homestead office to schedule an appointment. No one ever answered and the calls simply dropped off. I wondered if I had a wrong number or what was going on. So I decided to drive over to see if the office was closed even though they showed they were open. And they were! I got there and asked the receptionist vet politely why she wasn't, they weren't answering their phones. She was noticeably bothered but explained they were short 1 person, the person who usually answers the phone. When I asked about scheduling a first time appointment, she asked me what insurance I had. I responded Florida blue cross blue shield. She goes on to advise me that they charge an additional $85 on top of the Co-pay I'm required to pay to see him. When asked why, she tells me the Dr. doesn't get paid what he wants to by my insurance and therefore charges an additional fee. I'm wondering if blue cross know about this. They will now I assure you. Too many red flags, including the reviews I read so I've decided to see another Endocrinologist. Even if I have to drive an additional 25 miles north to kendall. Going with my gut instinct.

This doctor may well be known to be a good doctor but twice I have made appointments and waited over an hour and a half and learned that he takes naps during his appointment times. This came from a patient in the waiting room plus I peaked and saw the doctor sleeping in his chair. Turns out the ladies are afraid of waking him. Doctors used to respect more than they do now other folks time.

Be prepared to wait 2 hours before you see the doctor. Very dismissive and will not hear you out.

I was hoping that everyone else who rated this doctor and his office with one star had just had a bad day but yes, they were right to have rated the one star. It's unfortunate but this doctor does not at all seem passionate about his work or truly concerned about his patients. Let's start with the overall function of the office. My appointment was scheduled for 2 pm. Based uponumy experience with all South Florida doctors offices, I didn't bother arriving as early as possible. I walked in at 1:58 pm, right on time, to see a "away at lunch" sign posted. So I sign my name on the clipboard and have a seat wondering why they'd schedule my appointment during their lunch hour. But okay, I'm a patient person so I sat and waited for 20 minutes before they returned and began calling patients to the back. My appointment was scheduled for 2 pm. I did not see him until 3:50 pm. Now, when I did speak with him, he seemed irritated as if my going to him was an inconvenience for him. I explained my concerns with difficulty with weight loss and pcos and he began challenging my diagnosis with pcos as if I diagnosed myself by refuting every piece of information I offered him. I maintained my composure well with yes sirs and no sirs but was never returned the consideration. I waited almost 2 hours just to be challenged by this man about my medical history. I do not at all recommend this doctor.

My husband had a wonderful first visit with Dr. Barrera.. Very knowledgeable, down to earth, with a nice staff.. he lowered his insulin intake & finally removed it.. hubby is feeling better..

My husband and I visited Dr. Barrera for the first time yesterday. He spent a lot of time with us, explaining things with easy to understand answers, replete with little squiggly drawings. He was very down to earth and funny.

Best doctor my experience has been very favorable my sugar is getting better and in better control which is very difficult because of renal failure and other conditions i am very happy and grateful ti doctor Barrera, he listens and care for you .
